With open enrollment under way in the health insurance marketplace, AARP Utah is warning state residents about possible new scams. Con artists may seek ways to obtain personal information or charge fees for “helping” people enroll.
AARP Oklahoma is recruiting volunteers to be dispatched next time a disaster strikes. According to the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Oklahoma has been hit with more natural disasters in the past 60 years than any other states except California and Texas. Last spring the AARP Foundation raised more than $670,000 to aid tornado victims.
Add theater tickets to the list of discounts available to AARP members who live in or visit Memphis. The Hattiloo Theatre, a black repertory theater company, is offering AARP members a 15 percent discount on ticket prices for the 2013-14 season.
Under a law that takes effect Jan. 1, advanced practice nurses in Illinois will be allowed to prescribe medications, diagnose ailments and refer patients to specialists and therapists. In addition, they will be able to determine disabilities for identification cards and license plates.
AARP applauds the settlement of a lawsuit against the state of Vermont to reduce a backlog of investigations into allegations of elder abuse, neglect and exploitation.
