AARP Texas encourages members to participate in two online seminars this month. Produced by AARP, the free hour-long webinars explain how the Affordable Care Act affects individuals and families.
AARP and other consumer advocates worked to block most of a $70 million rate hike proposed by Atlantic City Electric, which provides power to about 547,000 customers. The state Board of Public Utilities decided in June to hold the increase to $25.5 million.
Medicare users have until Dec. 7 to sign up for or switch Part D prescription drug plans.
AARP Wyoming is posting videos on issues important to state residents age 50-plus on its new YouTube and Google-plus channels. Topics include the Affordable Care Act, ways to cut Medicare costs and how volunteers are giving back to soldiers. Also available are tips on keeping the brain healthy, saving for retirement and making family reunions memorable.
Looking for information about health conditions or health care providers? A state website, FloridaHealthFinder.gov, offers answers, and AARP Florida is encouraging people to learn how to use it through a free online seminar.
The Phoenix City Council will vote in December on a “complete streets” policy that would encourage walking, bicycling and transit use while promoting safe operations for all users. New roads and reconstruction would feature bike lanes, benches for bus riders, street lamps, curb cuts for wheelchairs and strollers, and other amenities.
