As of November 1, 2025, millions of Americans may not receive their monthly food benefits through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) due to the ongoing federal government shutdown. In Wyoming, Governor Gordon has declared a public welfare emergency to ensure that food assistance continues (for now), but this can still put pressure on local organizations and food banks dedicated to feeding hungry Wyomingites.

ALBANY, N.Y. — AARP New York State Director Beth Finkel issued the following statement today in response to Governor Kathy Hochul’s announcement of new protections and resources for New Yorkers struggling with home heating assistance.
New AARP caregiving data released today, Caregiving in the U.S. 2025: Caring Across States, finds that 24% of adults in Indiana — approximately 1.2 million people — are family caregivers, providing largely unpaid and unsupported care to older parents, spouses, and other loved ones.
