AARP New York State Director Beth Finkel issued the following statement in regards to Governor Hochul vetoing A.2468 (Dinowitz) into law, which would have created the state office of the utility consumer advocate.

It’s well known that prescription drug prices are skyrocketing in America. Price increases for brand name drugs have far exceeded the rate of inflation since at least 2006, according to AARP’s Rx Price Watch report. And, the average annual cost for just one brand name drug taken on a chronic basis was about $6,800 in 2017, almost $1,000 more than in 2015. However, it’s not just patients paying for greedy Big Pharma practices that help keep drug prices high— it’s also taxpayers.
Gas Delivery Rates Would Jump as Much as 40% Under Joint Proposal by Con Ed, State Regulatory Staff ALBANY, N.Y. – AARP New York today urged Governor Andrew Cuomo and the state Public Service Commission (PSC) to reject a $1.2 billion Consolidated Edison rate hike agreement between the utility company and PSC staff – which would raise gas delivery rates by 25% to 40% and electric delivery rates by 15%.
