When Idalia High retired from a lifelong career of teaching in 1987, she was far from finished when it comes to working to improve her community. Since that time, she has volunteered with AARP and others to raise the profiles of the local services offered to seniors by both public and private organizations including the Wilson County Department of Social Services.

CHARLOTTE - Unemployment is especially difficult for 50+ workers because they tend to stay jobless longer than younger workers. Many have not been on a job interview in many years and feel unprepared to compete for new jobs. And many do not just how important social media – such as LinkdIn – is to employers in finding new talent. That is why AARP is offering workshops specifically for older workers in the Queen City.

Here in Charlotte, we have a network of volunteers who come from a variety of backgrounds who have regular opportunities to give back to the community in meaningful ways.
