RALEIGH -- Former AARP North Carolina volunteer leaders Richard "Dick" and Diana "Dee" Hatch received recognition for their long-time contributions to improving the lives of older adults in North Carolina.

RALEIGH -- Dr. Catherine Harvey Sevier of Greensboro has been appointed as the new state president of AARP North Carolina. The volunteer led AARP has 1.1 million members in the state and is instrumental in improving the lives of older adults through information, advocacy, community service and local offerings and events.

Each month, AARP volunteers offer their talents and their time to have a positive impact in the Charlotte region. Whether its leading a workshop on a valuable topic or lending a hand to local organizations fighting hunger, our local volunteer program matches the commitment of those who want to give back with the resources of AARP.

Meet Windy Ellis of Raleigh, a former state employee who put her computer skills and knowledge of networking and programming to use in a long career as a systems analyst. But when Windy retired from public service in 2014, she knew her career path was far from over. She felt the need to continue serving society and founded the charity Seniors Are Special Too.

ASHEVILLE -- Reflecting the increasing number of older adults in North Carolina, the 1.1 million-member state affiliate of AARP is also growing and is extending its service to communities in Western North Carolina. AARP has hired Rebecca Chaplin as its new Community Outreach Associate State Director to serve the mountain region of the state.
