AARP North Carolina Awards Several Charlotte Volunteers for Their Commitment to Serving the 50+ Community in the Queen City

When Idalia High retired from a lifelong career of teaching in 1987, she was far from finished when it comes to working to improve her community. Since that time, she has volunteered with AARP and others to raise the profiles of the local services offered to seniors by both public and private organizations including the Wilson County Department of Social Services.

CHARLOTTE - One of the best gifts someone can give to their community is the skill set they have developed over their working career. Here in Charlotte, we have a network of volunteers who come from a variety of backgrounds who have regular opportunities to give back to the community in meaningful ways.

CHARLOTTE - Is your neighborhood walkable? If you lost your mobility and could not drive, would you be able to connect to the services that you need?

To express heartfelt gratitude to the volunteer leaders and organizations who are working to support AARP’s vision and mission, AARP North Carolina’s staff and Executive Council held a special awards ceremony in July.

RALEIGH -- Southern Shores resident Robert Palombo has been appointed the new state president of AARP North Carolina, the state’s largest social mission organization with over 1.1 million North Carolina members.
