Low Rates of “Up to Date” Vaccinations Increase Vulnerability for Residents & Staff

AARP Connecticut submitted to the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) a petition that was signed by thousands of Connecticut residents in the 17 towns serviced by United Illuminating Company opposing the utility provider’s request to implement a rate increase on the regulated delivery portion of electric bills. This will significantly raise the cost of electricity for Connecticut ratepayers, who already pay the highest retail electricity price in the continental United States, by nearly 15% over three years. If approved, the rate increase would be in addition to a significant increase in the cost of deregulated supply that will take effect on January 1, 2023.

SACRAMENTO -- AARP California has announced that Senator Anna Caballero and Assembly Member Buffy Wicks have been awarded the 2022 AARP California Legislator of the Year Award.

"I think it’s important that we educate people on the importance of advocacy.  In public health, we put great effort in educating people on the importance of prevention – getting a flu shot; wearing a seat belt, getting a colonoscopy, etc. but we don’t teach people how to be advocates for themselves and the people they love."

Advocating for what is important to our members and giving you a voice at the state and federal levels is a priority for AARP Minnesota. Your voice matters. We work with local organizations and town and city officials to make our communities more livable and places to age with dignity and purpose. Our advocacy efforts have been nonpartisan since our founding in 1958.

AARP Nevada is looking for volunteers now to get involved and give back to our community.

AARP Texas is praising the Austin City Council for rejecting a proposed $ 25-a-month electric service customer charge. The City Council instead approved on Dec. 8 changes to its rates that will result in an overall $9 a month increase, which includes a $3 a month hike in the customer charge. AARP Texas had expressed concerns that a higher customer charge would have hit hard many Austinites, particularly older residents on fixed incomes and others struggling to make ends meet.

AARP recently launched an interactive, mobile friendly Veterans and Military Families Health Benefits Navigator to bring together valuable information and resources in real-time to help veterans, military families and their caregivers navigate their health care options.
