As part of its efforts to make Iowa communities better places to live and age, AARP will present tips and tools for livability at the Iowa League of Cities annual conference. More than 500 mayors and other municipal officials are expected to attend the Cedar Rapids event Sept. 23-25. Presenters will address an array of issues, including the challenges of a rapidly aging population.

Encore invites you to join us for our Fall season of singing to be held at multiple locations in Northern Virginia. Encore singers improve their voices, improve their health, meet new friends and enjoy a great new adventure singing challenging music in four parts in preparation to join other Encore Chorales for exciting community concerts. There are no auditions, new singers are welcome, and singers may be seated for rehearsals and performances.
In their acclaimed study, Women Don’t Ask, authors Linda Babcock and Sara Laschever identified a 7.6 percent difference between the salaries of women and men MBAs seeking comparable jobs. They also found that fewer women than men tried to negotiate their salaries. The book fueled a debate on whether women’s apparent reluctance to negotiate accounted for the difference in compensation.

Having grown up in New York City, I have experienced the rapidly changing dynamics of our great city for more than half a century. As I look to age into my next 50 years in NYC, I realize that none of these changing dynamics have been as fundamental as the generational shifts. So as a charter member of the Baby Boomers and a lifelong New Yorker I understand why Generation X and Boomers have “High Anxiety” about how they can afford to age in NYC AARP NY has the unique opportunity to impact the lives of the current aging cohort and of the generations that will follow them.
