Lenders in Alabama currently offer payday loans and automobile title loans at triple-digit interest rates (up to 456 annual percentage rate), far above the 36% annual interest rate cap that Congress set for military personnel and their families. Misleading promises of a quick fix trap the most vulnerable Alabamians in financial quicksand and leave borrowers in a never-ending cycle of debt, often borrowing from other payday lenders to pay back an initial loan.

AARP would like you to know that on June 5-9, 2013 over 800 participating athletes over the age of 50 will meet at the Greeley Senior Activity Center for the 36th annual Rocky Mountain Senior Games, to put their lifelong training, preparation, and hard work to the test. They will compete in multiple events including: track, cycling, power walking, pickleball, tennis, pool and many other events over five days of competition. Results from the events will determine whether or not the athletes will qualify for the National Senior Games held in Cleveland, OH in July 2013. These seniors will prove that their age has no barrier and that they too, can continue to live out their dreams.

Every year billions of federal dollars are lost in Medicare due to health care fraud, error and abuse. To combat this and help consumers better protect themselves, the Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) project recruits and trains retired professionals and other volunteer senior citizens on recognizing and reporting instances or patterns of health care fraud. The SMP is a national program funded by the Federal Administration on Aging beginning in 1997.
