AARP Pennsylvania staff and volunteers celebrated the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, by participating in local events across the state that echoed the belief of its founder Dr. Ethel Percy Andrus, "To serve, not to be served."
Steve Scheibe is the 2012 recipient of the Fredericksburg Area AARP Chapter 3396 Wilson Corley Community Service Award. Scheibe has made a tremendous impact in the Fredericksburg area through his community service. He currently serves as President of the Fredericksburg Chapter. In addition, he represents AARP and TRIAD at information tables at numerous regional events such as the Art of Aging. For many years, Scheibe has volunteered with the “Walk to End Alzheimer’s.” He also has dedicated significant time and energy to volunteering with the Fredericksburg Area Food Bank. He has spent many Saturday mornings filling boxes with food to benefit hungry families.
January is beginning with a bang for AARP Maryland! The office was out in full force across the state over the last several days, assisting with a food drive in Sandy-affected Crisfield, MD and presenting a $50,000 check from the AARP Foundation, as well as maintaining a presence at the 2013 Maryland General Assembly kick-off.
AARP South Carolina is looking for its next State President. This volunteer position is the highest position within an AARP state office. The role of state president offers an individual the opportunity to utilize considerable skills and experience to make a positive difference in the lives of South Carolina residents 50+.
Investing sufficient resources in services that help New York’s caregiving families needs to be a priority in our State. Services like respite care and adult day care help contain costs and delay, or prevent, nursing home and emergency room care.

Experience Corps is hosting a series of community conversations with AARP members and the general 50+ public from January 18 through February 16. The conversations, which are scheduled for about 1-1/2 hours, will serve to provide those interested with more information on AARP Experience Corps and the work we do with local schools, as well as an opportunity to learn more about volunteer opportunities to work with children in grades K - 3 during the 2013-2014 school year.
Thirty volunteers representing each of Hawaii’s counties visited the state Capitol in Honolulu last Thursday to share with legislators AARP’s state-level advocacy priorities for 2013.
