AARP California staff and volunteers, working with consumer advocates at The Utility Reform Network (TURN) and AARP colleagues across the country, waged a successful campaign to oppose a three-year, $4.3 billion general electricity rate increase proposed by Southern California Edison.
Fun was the fare of the day when AARP Missouri volunteers from across the state convened for the Annual Volunteer Recognition luncheon at Columbia’s Stoney Creek Inn on Nov. 13. From 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., volunteers played casino-style game that allowed both novices and those experienced in Black Jack, craps, poker, and roulette to take chances on winning play money that could be bartered for unique prizes.

A news story started it all. Judy Cockerton was moved to action after learning about a 5-month old foster child who had been kidnapped from his crib. She and her husband became foster parents themselves, but Cockerton wanted to do more. Knowing that not all families can bring foster children into their homes, she wanted to create other ways for people to help.
Macon-area resident Myrtle Habersham has been named to the AARP Georgia Executive Council, the policy-making and volunteer leadership team that directs AARP's efforts in Georgia.
When the Tennessee Legislature convenes its new two-year 108th General Assembly in Nashville on Jan. 8, 2013, AARP Tennessee will be there working hard to protect the health, finances and rights of Tennesseans, especially those age 50 and older.
