AARP New York’s state legislative priorities include safeguarding New Yorkers’ access to quality, affordable health care and prescription coverage. By the year 2030, the number of older New Yorkers is expected to increase by 65 percent. The legislative session in Albany drew to a close in late June. AARP’s volunteers and members fought to ensure policies adopted allow New Yorkers to age with dignity, independence and security.

The New Mexico State Legislature will get underway for the 2013 session beginning Jan. 15th at noon and for AARP New Mexico, finances will once again take most of its focus. Although indicators are predicting an increase in state revenues, money is still tight and forecasts are still below the levels New Mexico enjoyed before the recession. As a result, the state budget will still be tight.
AARP Kansas honored its 2012 outstanding community service volunteer during a luncheon banquet in Emporia on November 7. Each year, AARP presents its most prestigious award, the Ethel Percy Andrus Award for Community Service, to an individual or individuals who, through volunteer service, significantly enhance the lives of those in their community. This award symbolizes that individuals have the power and ability to make a difference in the lives of others.
