Sue Lundgren, of Las Cruces, has been named AARP New Mexico’s 2012 Andrus Award winner. The award is named for AARP’s founder Dr. Ethel Percy Andrus and is given to a volunteer who most exemplifies her example and motto of “to serve, not to be served.”Lundgren was bestowed the honor because of the countless hours she gives to a variety of organizations in Las Cruces, her dedication toward serving others and her belief that community service is important.

Fl as h Volunteer, a Seattle company that boosts volunteerism through an innovative website, has won an AARP Foundation prize. The project emerged from a competition at the University of Washington as part of the Foundation’s new contest.

Now that all the election rhetoric is over, AARP Wisconsin believes state lawmakers understand that their constituents expect them to sit down together and work in a bipartisan manner to pass legislation that benefits all Wisconsinites.

The AARP Missouri Andrus Award for Community Service 2012 honoree is Bob Sanders of Piedmont. Recipients of the prestigious award are honored for sharing their experience, talent, and skills to enrich the lives of their community members.

AARP Foundation Tax-Aide, the nation’s largest free, volunteer-run tax preparation and assistance service, is seeking volunteers across the state to help Missouri taxpayers who are seeking assistance preparing and filing their 2012 tax returns.

Patricia Quigg of Jenkintown has been selected by AARP, the nonprofit membership organization for people 50 and older, to receive Pennsylvania’s 2012 AARP Andrus Award for Community Service, the Association’s most prestigious and visible volunteer award.

Diversity once again took center stage at the 2012 AARP Multicultural Festival, recently held at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia. The event was sponsored by the AARP Pennsylvania state office . Hundreds of people from the tri-state area attended the Multicultural Festival in celebration of the diversity and community life that is found throughout the Delaware Valley. This annual event brought together local residents and guests to celebrate a rich medley of cultures within the African American, Asian, and Hispanic-Latino communities.

Earlier this fall, AARP Wisconsin delivered a report titled Wisconsinites Have Their Say about Medicare and Social Security to Members of Congress and all candidates who were running for congressional offices.

Last year, 750 AARP Tax-Aide volunteers in communities across Wisconsin helped over 43,500 Wisconsinites fill out their tax returns, resulting in refunds totaling more than $26 million.
