Many older LGBT citizens face difficulties getting proper medical treatment. Some live alone due to fear of discrimination. Others can find it hard to settle into nursing homes because of potential mistreatment.
Asking a loved one to move into a nursing home is a difficult decision, and choosing the right home can be an emotional task. Before settling on a facility, experts say it’s a good idea to visit several and to use a checklist based on your observations.

As we've been spending more time with family during the holidays, Texas newspapers have been highlighting the family caregivers who give so much year round.
There are more than 3.4 million unpaid family caregivers in Texas. It is with pride that we extend our thanks to each one of them.
Each day in Texas, millions of uncelebrated heroes are giving baths and preparing meals. They’re providing rides to the doctor and grocery store. They’re dispending medicines and handling complex medical tasks, sometimes with little or no training.
