Every year AARP seeks nominations for the annual Andrus Award for Community Service, which honors one volunteer who has shared their experience, talent, and skills to enrich the lives of their community members. This year’s award goes to Robert Ehlert of Des Plaines, Illinois.
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) celebrated its 25th birthday this July, during which the ADA Legacy Project has been teaming up with organizations and community leaders throughout the Chicago area to create discussion on the role ADA has had on thousands of lives since it's start in 1990. The Harris Theater, one of many businesses working in conjunction with ADA25, plans to embark on a campaign over the next five years to raise funds for program expansion and structural updates to the theater.
Although the budget stalemate continues to play out in Springfield, Governor Bruce Rauner signed the Illinois Caregiver Advise, Record, and Enable (CARE) Act into law as Public Act 99-0222, which recognizes the critical role family caregivers play in order to keep their loved ones safe as they age independently from home.

Serie McDougal, Jr., went missing from his South Shore home on May 25, 2015. Mr. McDougal suffers from Alzheimer's disease and his family has been working diligently to locate him and bring him back home. Fliers have been distributed in his neighborhood and surrounding communities, emails have been sent, a Facebook page created, and prayer vigils held. McDougal’s family have contacted the local police, media outlets, the Alzheimer’s Association, Alderman Leslie Hairston, and Senator Kwame Raoul in efforts to find their missing family member.
