Virgin Islanders who care for an aging loved one at home just got a huge boost of support from the legislature. A new law, which took effect March 30, improves communication and coordination between hospitals and family caregivers.

La situación es ahora un poco más fácil para los cuidadores en Puerto Rico. Gracias a los intensos esfuerzos de activismo de los voluntarios y el personal de AARP, se aprobaron tres leyes que ayudarán a las personas que cuidan de niños o de sus seres queridos adultos en Puerto Rico. La ley CARE (Aconsejar, Señalar y Posibilitar a los Cuidadores) requiere que los hospitales les informen a los familiares a cargo de un ser querido los planes relacionados con el alta del paciente, y les den instrucciones a los cuidadores sobre las tareas médicas o de enfermería que deban realizar una vez que el paciente regrese a su hogar.
