AARP Kansas is backing legislation in 2015 that could expand dental care for nursing home residents in underserved parts of the state.
AARP Alaska is pressing for legislation that could help an estimated 128,000 unpaid family caregivers in the state, many of whom perform medical tasks for aging parents or other loved ones at home.
AARP Idaho invites members to chat with Lt. Gov. Brad Little (R) during a tele-town hall on Dec. 12 from 11 a.m. to noon.
Gearing up for the next legislative session, which begins in February, AARP Oklahoma is preparing to fight for affordable utilities and continued protection of nursing home residents. The state’s largest utility companies have asked for rate increases, and lobbyists representing for-profit nursing homes historically have opposed AARP’s efforts to strengthen protections for nursing home residents, for example, by allowing them to have a video monitor in the room.
Highly trained nurses know a lot more than how to take a patient’s pulse and temperature. Advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) can evaluate patients, order and interpret diagnostic tests, and prescribe medications. So why not give them authority to practice to the full extent of their training?
