AARP Pennsylvania and AARP Foundation are offering $10,000 in grants to faith-based organizations in Philadelphia’s African American community to fund projects aimed at relieving hunger among people age 50-plus. Nearly 6 percent of Pennsylvanians in that age group are at risk of hunger.
For people in need of long-term care, Mississippi is not a hospitable state, according to a scorecard released by AARP, the Commonwealth Fund and the SCAN Foundation.
Putting the action into Hunger Action Month, AARP is working with Iowa food banks on “30 Ways in 30 Days,” an effort to connect volunteers with projects designed to stave off hunger throughout the state. Volunteers can assemble backpacks for children and older Iowans, sort groceries and donations at food banks, or harvest produce at community gardens.
Voters age 50-plus are a political and economic powerhouse in Florida, and the AARP state office aims to help them make an informed choice for governor.
