AARP Connecticut applauds the final decision by the Connecticut Public Utility Regulatory Authority (PURA) to reject United Illuminating Company’s supplemental rate increase request. An approved increase would have significantly raised the cost of electricity for Connecticut ratepayers, who already pay the highest retail electricity price in the continental United States.
This fall, AARP Connecticut will award grants to help cities, towns and nonprofit organizations across the state make their communities more livable for residents of all ages.
AARP Connecticut praises state legislators on the passage of Senate Bill 976, An Act Concerning Conservatorship Accountability, on May 11, 2017. AARP Connecticut also congratulates the Probate Court Administrator for putting forward the proposal and engaging stakeholder support. The bill will improve Connecticut’s adult guardianship system and help protect vulnerable individuals from financial exploitation.

AARP Connecticut’s “Fourth Fridays Free at Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo” will return on June 23 and conclude this year with a special after-hours event. With the fourth Friday free offer, AARP members can enjoy free admission to Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo on the fourth Friday of each month from June to September.
