Advocacy is a core part of AARP’s mission, and at the state level, the legislative session is a rich if frenetic opportunity to advocate on a wide range of issues on behalf of Floridians ages 50 and over.

Tallahassee, Fla. -- AARP Florida State Director Jeff Johnson issued the following statement today strongly supporting newly announced legislation to strengthen consumer protections in state law for ratepayers receiving services from investor owned utilities:

Improving state services that help you remain in your home as you grow older, battling against unfair utility rates and fighting for better state health services for Floridians 50+ are among the top areas AARP Florida will focus on in the 2015 state legislative session, the state’s top AARP leader said.
Since its inception, AARP has been a membership organization that relies on volunteers. Our founder, Dr. Ethel Percy Andrus, was a volunteer throughout her time leading the organization. To this day, AARP’s all-volunteer board of directors and national president continue that tradition of volunteer leadership.
