Helping connect Minnesotans to resources that help them save money and live their best life
Six communities throughout Minnesota will receive 2025 Community Challenge grants. The grants are part of AARP’s $4.2 million commitment to fund quick-action projects aimed at making communities more livable for people of all ages, with a focus on the needs of older adults. The AARP Community Challenge funds innovative projects that inspire change in areas such as public places; housing; transportation; and more.
The State Legislature bridged a historically narrow political divide to pass a two-year state budget during a special session. Despite facing challenges such as vacancies in both chambers, federal budget uncertainties, and a looming structural deficit, the Legislature successfully advanced several of AARP Minnesota’s key legislative priorities.
AARP is now accepting nominations for its 2025 Minnesota Andrus Award for Community Service, which honors Minnesotans 50-plus who are sharing their experience, talent, and skills to enrich the lives of their community members.
Starting May 14, AARP is launching Countdown to 90 Years—a recognition and call to action leading up to the 90th anniversary of Social Security on August 14, 2025. ST. PAUL -- AARP Minnesota today applauded the efforts of State Senator Bobby Champion and State Representative Rick Hansen for their work on authoring bipartisan legislation to help hundreds-of-thousands of Minnesotan citizens who are caring for their parents or loved ones. The legislation (SF 840 and HF 568) has now been approved by both legislative chambers, but certain differences in the two bills still must be addressed.
AARP Minnesota commended a bipartisan group of state legislators today after the House of Representatives overwhelmingly approved legislation, HF 194, to crack down on wire transfer fraud. According to the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, tens of thousands of Minnesotans have been scammed by making a wire transfer, resulting in millions of dollars of loss per year.

As I approached becoming an empty nester 18 years ago, I began working on an MBA in Nonprofit Management while managing a Creative Kidstuff toy store. While it’s a great company with a strong mission, I knew that retail sales was not the best match for me. I celebrated my graduation in 1999 by taking my two daughters on a trip to Italy. It was on that trip that I decided to quit my job immediately and spend the summer job searching in nonprofit organizations.
My name is Peggy Heistand -Harri and I am an AARP Member from Duluth. I am here to tell my family’s story about wire transfer fraud – a story that happens all too often across the state of Minnesota.
ST PAUL – For years AARP Minnesota has worked to help provide seniors with the tools and information they need to protect themselves from fraud. Today, AARP is teaming up with Capitol leaders to support legislation to make it harder for scammers to target Minnesotans. Senator Terri Bonoff and Representative Joe Atkins have introduced SF 247 and HF 194 which will increase protections against fraudulent wire transfers.

Strengthening protections for vulnerable adults and standing up to consumer fraud are two of AARP Minnesota’s biggest priorities. In 2013, one legislative proposal combines both of these into a single bill and, as you might have assumed, has that strong backing of AARP.
Everyone loves a good story about high school sweethearts. Bob and Rosie Geyen's story is one of those. They met at a Waconia High School play and had their first date 50 years ago this January. Education was one of their many shared loves. Rosie taught 1st grade until the birth of their first child and was a substitute teacher over the years. Bob taught and administered in several Minnesota school districts.
