Do you want to help make a difference in other’s lives, both in your own community and beyond? Become an AARP volunteer and help bring the power of AARP to Poughkeepsie! You’ll help us grow the reach of our message and mission, which is to improve the quality of life for people 50 years of age and older, and their families. With your assistance, we can build a local team of AARP volunteers, who will help at discounted events, community service gatherings and at local and state advocacy functions.
AARP Foundation Tax-Aide is looking to expand its team of volunteers for the upcoming tax season. Approaching its 50 th year, Tax-Aide offers free tax filing help to anyone, especially those 50 and older, who can’t afford a tax preparation service. Tax-Aide volunteers make a difference in their communities by assisting many older, lower-income taxpayers who might otherwise miss out on the credits and deductions they’ve earned.
Earlier this month, 13 AARP members and volunteers helped collect more than 1,000 pounds in food donations for Nassau County veterans service agency VetMart. Volunteers stood outside the entrance to the Carl Place Stop&Shop and encouraged patrons to pick up a few extra items for the food drive while they did their usual shopping. The outpouring of generosity and compassion from the community was incredible - Donations came in by the bagful! Some shoppers handed over more in donations than they’d bought for themselves, while others ran back into the store for a second round of shopping once they realized there was a food drive.
Do you know an extraordinary volunteer age 50 or older?
