AARP North Carolina and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) are hosting Encore Entrepreneur events to help North Carolinians age 50-plus start or grow a small business.

CHARLOTTE - Take one look at Bob Roberts on his bike and you're likely to be inspired. At 69 years old, Bob is an avid rider and, in many ways, a model boomer. He takes care of himself and has an active lifestyle, still works in a rewarding field and shows no signs of slowing down any time soon. But a closer at Bob - and his helmet adorning the phrase "We are not done" - reveals that his passion for life extends further beyond his own personal fulfillment.

This week on “ Without Limits,” you’ll meet Bob Roberts, one many who is doing his part to disrupt aging and dispel the notion of what it means to age in America.

GREENSBORO –To meet the needs of the state’s 50 plus population, AARP has hired Cara Townsend as Associate State Director serving the Triad. Townsend has more than 15 years of experience in public policy, having served four Members of Congress, the White House, and North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory. In 2004, she was selected as a Presidential Appointee in Congressional Affairs for the George W. Bush Administration.

CHARLOTTE - Aging in America today is not what it was for your parents. Times have changed, and so have your options for a long and productive life at 50 plus! As the Boomers change the demographics of the country, so, too, must our perceptions of aging change. And there is no better way to change those points of view than by sharing stories and allowing ourselves to be inspired by those leading the way.

Much attention and debate has been focused on LGBT rights after the North Carolina General Assembly overturned a Charlotte bathroom ordinance. But what are the issues when it comes to LGBT rights and aging?

CHARLOTTE -- According to the organization Sustain Charlotte, “It's no secret that Charlotte's transportation network is primarily built for cars, not for people on bikes or on foot. But that's been changing in recent years as Charlotte Department of Transportation has taken an approach that considers the needs of not only auto drivers, but also those who cannot or choose not drive.”

CHARLOTTE -- AARP’s Without Limits is a new hour-long program on WBT radio devoted to the interests, needs and aspirations of the 50+ population. Premiering at 6:00 pm, on January 16 th, listeners will have a chance to tune in each week to a unique program that speaks to the new face of aging in the Charlotte area.
