The SECURE 2.0 Act of 2022 introduced major updates to retirement savings, offering greater flexibility for individuals managing their 401(k) plans. These changes, effective in 2024, allow easier access to retirement funds for emergencies and adjust required minimum distribution (RMD) rules. As online holiday shopping ramps up, so do scam attempts. A new AARP survey shows that over 80% of adults have faced some form of holiday-related fraud, yet many of us are unaware of scammers’ tactics – especially online.
In the upcoming legislative session, AARP South Carolina volunteers could help improve issues such as caregiving expenses, high utility costs or the lack of affordable housing.
AARP Texas in 2025 will push for legislation that would require assisted living facilities to have adequate backup power that can help maintain safe temperatures during power outages.
