Oklahoma has enacted the Elder Exploitation and Abuse Act, a groundbreaking law aimed at protecting vulnerable adults from financial, physical, and emotional abuse. Effective November 1, 2025, this legislation empowers victims and their legal representatives to pursue civil claims against abusers, including caretakers. The law allows for the recovery of punitive damages, attorney fees, and court-ordered access to records.

The iconic Smokey Bear turns 81 this year, and we will celebrate his birthday with gusto. AARP Wyoming’s GRT is a group of AARP members in the Cowboy State who enjoy learning and advocating for policy that helps older adults in Wyoming. The GRT meets monthly during the legislative interim to do a deep dive into a policy topic, and weekly during the Legislative Session. During a planning meeting in March, the GRT overwhelmingly requested more information on gaming in Wyoming and its impacts to the state’s coffers in light of property tax cuts.
