AARP Pennsylvania State Director Bill Johnston-Walsh provided the following statement today in response to the finalized budget for fiscal year 2025-2026.
There is a mix of perennials and shrubs that should not be pruned before winter. Keep in mind that any pruning on a plant encourages growth. Pruning stimulates a growth hormone called an auxin. If you prune the top of a rose cane, it will stimulate growth below the pruned section. Pruning in late fall or winter is risky. The environmental temperatures will not support growth.
Without congressional action, the Social Security trust funds will be depleted in the coming years. But Oklahomans can encourage their elected leaders to make strengthening the program a priority.

AARP Idaho is proud to announce the addition of Soda Springs into the AARP Network of Age-Friendly States and Communities. Other Idaho participants include Boise, Meridian, Nampa, Malad City, Cascade, Preston, Montpellier, and Oneida County.
The 33rd Alaska Legislature concluded its first year of the two-year session on May 18th -- one day after its 121-day constitutional regular session limit. The Governor called the special session, asking the Legislature to agree to a balanced budget funding state services and permanent fund dividends (PFD) for fiscal year 2024 which begins July 1, 2023. The budget impasse during the regular session focused on the size of the PFD.
