AARP Michigan is working with Vonda VanTil, a Social Security public affairs specialist in Grand Rapids, to offer a series of workshops to help Michiganders learn how to apply for Social Security benefits.
AARP Ohio aims to keep members informed about issues that affect them and their families, such as caregiving, utility costs, health care and tax reform.
Caregiving, financial security, health care—Arkansans 50-plus face multiple challenges. That’s why AARP Arkansas has expanded its list of topics for group presentations. Civic clubs, church groups, AARP chapters and other organizations can book a free presentation on Medicare, Social Security or caregiving, as well as the ever-popular Fraud Watch Network workshops.
Gwendolyn Spencer Prater, Ph.D. of Madison has been appointed as the new State President of AARP Mississippi. State President is AARP’s highest volunteer position in Mississippi, representing 285,000 AARP members in the state. In partnership with the State Director, volunteers and staff, the State President helps the organization achieve its vision, mission and strategic priorities.
Beginning February 1 and continuing through April 17, AARP Foundation is providing free tax assistance and preparation through its Tax-Aide program. AARP Foundation Tax-Aide, celebrating its 50 th year, is the nation’s largest free tax assistance and preparation service. Since its inception, the program has served more than 50 million taxpayers.
Black History Month is an annual celebration commemorating African Americans who contributed to the monumental movement of equal rights for men and women in our society. The month of February allows individuals to pay homage by reflecting on the past, while focusing on the future. In commemoration of Black History Month, AARP is offering a free admission day to the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018. The first 300 people will enter free of charge.
The Connecticut Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) and the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) have concluded that the Millstone Nuclear Power plant will be profitable through the year 2035, (Docket # 17-07-32).
