Local companies top the list of the recipients of the 2013 AARP Best Employers for Workers Over 50 award, cosponsored by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). The 50 winners were announced on June 17, 2013, at the SHRM annual conference in Chicago.
New Census data show that Hawaii is one of the most rapidly aging states in the country. Last year individuals age 65+ comprised more than 15 percent our total population (Hawaii ranked 9 th in the U.S.) and those age 85+ accounted for 2.5 percent of our population (Hawaii ranked 5 th).
Ochsner Health System, based in New Orleans, is being honored by AARP and the Society for Human Resource Management as one of the 2013 Best Employers for Workers Over 50.

Myers, and the School Board of Brevard County are all being honored by AARP and the Society for Human Resource Management as some of the 2013 Best Employers for Workers Over 50.
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – Mountain States Health Alliance (MSHA) has been recognized by AARP as one of the 50 best employers in the nation for workers over 50. MSHA is the only company in Tennessee to receive the honor this year.
In past decades, workers worked for one company for many years, often for their entire working lives. That is no longer the norm. In fact, the average length of time a worker stays in one job is about 4½ years. Assuming a work life of about 45 years (estimating from 22 to 67 years of age), a worker will have about 10 positions during his or her work life. That fact proves two very important things:
AARP, FINRA, Investor Education Foundation, The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the Pennsylvania Office of the Attorney General, and other advocacy and enforcement agencies recently joined forces in Philadelphia to encourage seniors to be on the guard against fraud and scams.
