Mayfest—one of Fort Worth’s longest-standing traditions—returns to Trinity Park May 3-6. The family-friendly festival will feature 40 bands on three stages, along with carnival rides, a Best of Fest food contest and much more.
La Gran Tamalada, a free event hosted by AARP Texas, offers a hands-on way to learn how to make tamales. This year the festive workshop will be held Sunday, Dec. 17, from 3-5 p.m., at the Guadalupe Theater, 1301 Guadalupe St., San Antonio.

AARP invites Texans to kick off National Hispanic Heritage Month in San Antonio Sept. 15 with a guided bus tour of the historic San Antonio Missions, where Native Americans lived and worked in the 1700s. The tour is one of several free events during the month-long celebration.
The AARP Block Party, which will pop up at major events around the country, makes it first stop in a few short weeks at Fiesta San Antonio. We’ll be at Maverick Park on April 22, from 9 AM to 5 PM, and April 23, from 3 PM to 10 PM.
Austin Mayor Steve Adler drew a smidgeon of laughter from a crowd of about 120 Central Texas AARP members when he told them that not everyone needs to give up their cars and ride city buses in HOV lanes. Rather, he said, just enough motorists should do so to speed up the lane he likes to drive.
Mother Nature’s soggy wrath, a monumental first-of-its-kind celebration, and an airshow could not keep more than 600 drivers from recycling their private documents and electronics in Corpus Christi. The AARP Shred Day event was held at KIII-TV (an ABC affiliate) Saturday, April 18 and it set a new record.
