Nevadans are now hearing a new question when being admitted for a hospital stay: “Do you have a family caregiver?”
More than 500,000 Nevadans currently serve as family caregivers, providing assistance to an aging parent or other loved one with the tasks of daily living. AARP Nevada, the Asian Community Development Center (ACDC) and Rising Asian Pacific Americans Coalition for Diversity (RAPACD) are pleased to welcome Major General Antonio "Tony" Taguba - one of the nation's foremost advocates for caregivers and veterans - to Las Vegas for two special community events:

They're in the community every day - volunteering, making a difference, lending their time and talent to help those in need. They work in food banks and animal shelters, in schools and in hospitals - improving our communities and enhancing quality of life for others . They are often unsung heroes, working and giving without recognition or thanks - just because it's the right thing to do. If you know an extraordinary volunteer age 50 or older, show your appreciation by nominating him or her for the 2016 AARP Nevada Andrus Award for Community Service!

The City of Henderson is the first Nevada city to join the AARP Network of Age-Friendly Communities, demonstrating a strong commitment to create an environment that is accessible and encourages active and healthy living for all ages. Mayor Andy Hafen and the City Council proclaimed February 2 "Age-Friendly Community Day" in Henderson to kick-off an extensive process to identify and address priorities to make its neighborhoods livable and sustainable.
