AARP Mississippi and the Mississippi Public Service Commission will host a Broadband Tech Night Workshop at the Collins Civic Center, located on 3220 U.S. 49 in Collins at 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 6, 2019. The workshop will feature AARP Mississippi representatives and Sam Britton, Southern District Public Service Commissioner.

In 2018 Fishers became the first Age Friendly Community in Indiana! Part of that work includes getting ideas from residents on how the city can continue to become a great place to live for people of all ages.

Dallas just took a big step towards becoming a more “age-friendly” city as the Dallas City Council today voted unanimously to approve the Age-Friendly Dallas Plan. This tool will serve as the roadmap for a raft of changes designed to make Dallas more livable for people of all ages.

As part of its 60th Anniversary celebration, AARP is installing very special fitness parks in each of the 50 states as well as where we have offices in the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The vast majority of people age 50 and older want to stay in their homes and communities for as long as possible. That's why AARP's Livable Communities work encourages communities to welcome housing options and develop homes that are accessible to residents and guests of all ages and abilities. Across the United States, however, there is a mismatch between the available housing stock and what the market wants and needs. This is partly due to shifting demographics, such as a rapidly aging population and shrinking household sizes, and partly due to the growing demand for walkable living.

AARP New Mexico in June will once again offer free document shredding in two New Mexico communities as part of its annual Shredfest.

Madison County lies on the western edge of North Carolina, where the Appalachian Trail meanders north and east from Great Smoky Mountain National Park. Generations of farmers once grew tobacco here on the sides of mountains and still raise cattle to make ends meet. “When you go back into some of the mountains and hollers, you can almost touch what once was,” says Dee Heinmuller, Director of Madison County Community Services.

Join us on Thursday, June 13th from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the AARP Rhode Island State Office located at 10 Orms Street in Providence. Parking is free and refreshments will be served.

Across Oregon, from the high deserts to the temperate coast, Oregonians love their communities and envision a future where they can continue to live and thrive where they live. That is the overwhelming conclusion of the Building a Communities for All Ages: Age-Friendly Oregon listening tour that AARP Oregon conducted in the summer and fall of 2019. Findings from the statewide tour, which included community conversations in thirteen communities spanning the state, as well as interviews with community leaders and subject matter experts representing diverse sectors and geographies, will be available for distribution in May 2019.
