AARP Wisconsin is seeking nominations for our 2015 AARP State Andrus Award for Community Service, which honors individuals who are sharing their experience, talent, and skills to enrich the lives in their communities.
Dianne Billey of Ellendale has been appointed to the AARP North Dakota Executive Council.
Connecticut has one of the oldest populations in the country and the number of residents age 65+ is expected to grow substantially over the next 20 years. In fact, nationally, by 2030, one out of every 5 Americans is expected to be age 65+.
District residents, sign up for training as an international disaster volunteer. Volunteers would answer phones, take inquiries and educate the public about the most effective ways to help disaster-affected people.
I recently had the opportunity to share our 2014 AARP Wisconsin Annual Report with another organization’s leadership who were unfamiliar with the full depth and breadth of AARP’s work in the state. As they paged through all the accomplishments of the last year, they matter-of-factly asked the question of how many staff we had in the state office to accomplish so many impressive things for the 50-plus population in Wisconsin. When I said seven, they said, “Excuse me. You said 17?” To which I replied, “No, seven.” After a moment or two of quizzical looks, I broke the silence. “Let me tell you a bit about our volunteers…”
