In 2015, the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide program will return to provide free tax assistance and preparation for taxpayers with low to moderate income. Heading into its 46 th year, the program is the nation’s largest free tax assistance and preparation service , giving special attention to the older population. Not 50+ or an AARP member? You can still receive the service – no one is turned away.
Since its inception, AARP has been a membership organization that relies on volunteers. Our founder, Dr. Ethel Percy Andrus, was a volunteer throughout her time leading the organization. To this day, AARP’s all-volunteer board of directors and national president continue that tradition of volunteer leadership.
Are you someone with strong leadership and interpersonal skills and have a knack for strategic planning and public speaking? AARP California is looking for you! We’re searching for a volunteer leader to serve as our State President. Interesting Volunteer Opportunities Available
Aboard the Spirit Cruise of Washington along the Potomac with spectacular views of the Washington Monument and other landmarks, AARP launched its celebration of the 2014 Andrus Award for Community Service Recognition Luncheon on October 16, 2014. Romaine Thomas, longtime District of Columbia resident and educator was this year’s recipient. The award, which was presented to her by AARP DC State President Joe Williams, honors a volunteer who provides outstanding service, leadership and advocacy for those who are 50 plus. Ms. Thomas served six years as the first AARP DC State President and is currently Volunteer Chair of the D.C. Commission on Aging. She also is active on many community boards and lobbies Congress for seniors.
Residents of Algiers, a community in New Orleans, will see an increase in their utility bills—but it could have been worse had AARP Louisiana not stepped in to rein in the hike.
Floridians now have another reason to root for the Miami Dolphins: The NFL team is working with the AARP state office and AARP Foundation to help older South Floridians in need.
