The 2023 AARP Texas Andrus Award recipients are big contributors to their communities' betterment.

AARP is seeking more volunteers for everything from giving talks on caregiving or fraud prevention, to sharing information about AARP at festivals, to helping run virtual events.

Volunteering, by definition, is a person who voluntarily undertakes or expresses a willingness to undertake a service. What that service is, varies for everyone, but for me, it means giving my time to an organization I am passionate about, like AARP. Growing up, I always enjoyed giving back to the community because I knew what a difference it can make not just for others, but also to the volunteer.

Hundreds descended on the 10th Annual San Antonio Coffee Festival for their morning cup of joe. The festival, held at Travis Park on Saturday, February 11, may have been a bit chilly, but coffee roasters were busy keeping the crowds warm with their unique blends of locally roasted coffee beans from all around the world.

Amid growing food insecurity, during the holidays, Texans should be aware of signs of hunger in their relatives and friends.

Dozens of baseball fans are sporting custom AARP Houston Astros jerseys after attending AARP Day at Minute Maid Park on Tuesday, September 27. Anyone who registered received a ticket to the game. AARP volunteers and staff distributed the jerseys, and other AARP branded swag during the Houston Astros and Arizona Diamondbacks matchup.

Two Rio Grande Valley residents have joined the all-volunteer leadership group that establishes strategic goals and objectives for the Association’s statewide presence consistent with AARP’s national strategies. Their work will help position AARP as an influential voice for older Texans.

The all-volunteer AARP Texas Executive Council functions as a working advisory board for the Association in the Lone Star State. Currently, the Executive Council is looking for new members in El Paso and in the Rio Grande Valley.
