AARP Texas wants older residents to be aware of their voting options, as well as important dates and deadlines, so they can exercise their right to vote while minimizing their risks of exposure to COVID-19.

The 2020 general election is fast approaching. COVID-19 has threatened the health and financial security of millions of Americans. As voters prepare to cast ballots in November, AARP is committed to helping older Americans exercise their right to vote safely while holding candidates accountable on issues like Medicare and Social Security.

A new AARP survey, released in conjunction with Social Security’s 85th anniversary, confirms that Americans highly value Social Security, and even more so due to the pandemic.

AARP is proud to be nonpartisan, neither supporting nor opposing political candidates or political parties at any level of government. AARP also has a long history of advocating for voting rights. In fact, older folks are historically the most likely to register and vote.

Election Day in Texas March 3, but that isn’t your only opportunity to vote. Early voting takes place in the Lone Star State from Feb. 18 to Feb. 28.

The Elizabeth Pannill Fletcher for Congress campaign is running a political ad in Texas’ 7th Congressional District that cites AARP on issues regarding the age-tax for people ages 50+. While AARP is an advocate for affordable health care for older adults and their families, AARP did not authorize this ad to reference AARP nor did AARP participate in the production of such ads.

An AARP poll released October 1 shows more than two-thirds of voters age 50 and older in Texas’ Seventh Congressional District believe Congress should strengthen Medicare and Social Security, address rising prescription drug costs, and strengthen and support family caregivers.
