A new state law aims to better protect vulnerable Kansans by making it a crime to financially exploit a dependent adult age 70 or older.
Older Nebraskans who are not capable of making financial decisions and don’t have a family member who can help will soon be able to have a legal guardian with training and oversight from the state court system.
AARP Utah is hosting a Real Possibilities University on Oct. 8 in St. George, with seminars on issues of interest to Utahns age 50-plus. University professors and other experts will address topics such as brain fitness, living wills and trusts, and staying active for life. The classes are based on the belief that everyone’s possibilities expand with age.
Anticipating that power utility NV Energy will propose rate changes this summer, AARP Nevada is recruiting volunteers to join its Utility Watchdogs team.

To meet the challenge of hunger statewide, AARP Virginia is coordinating a food drive throughout the Old Dominion Sept. 8-15. Volunteers can help at more than 150 collection sites, and donations will go to local food pantries.
Nearly 1 in 8 residents of the nation’s capital struggle with hunger, and the annual AARP D.C. Drive to End Hunger aims to help. AARP is hosting an orientation Sept. 18 to train volunteers, who will greet shoppers and collect nonperishable food at area grocery stores Oct. 3-4. All donations will go to the Capital Area Food Bank and local pantries.
