November is Family Caregiving Month and Military Family Month. As a family caregiver, you may be responsible for managing and administering lots of medication. If you have medications in your home that are no longer needed or expired, AARP Long Island encourages you to dispose of them safely this November.

AARP is shedding a light on the challenges that many Hispanic and Latino family caregivers face, AARP invites you to join us for a reception and screening of “Cada paso del camino” which translates to “Every step of the way.” The Spanish language documentary is director Alberto Ferreras’s submission to this year’s New York Latino Film Festival. The film will be followed by a panel discussion with Ferreras, TV influencer and caregiver Marco Antonio Regil, and Tony Ruiz, a New York executive and family caregiver featured in the film.

AARP New York and the Paid Family Leave Coalition fought for the Paid Family Leave program because family caregivers who work shouldn’t have to choose between caring for a loved one or losing their jobs. In January 2018, we reached that goal when one of the strongest Paid Family Leave laws in the nation took effect.
AARP joined Broadway stars Lin-Manuel Miranda and John Leguizamo at Viva Broadway, a free outdoor celebration kicking off Hispanic Heritage Month and sponsored by AARP New York. The program, held in Duffy Square, included appearances and performances from current and past Broadway stars including Ana Villafañe (On Your Feet!), Rodney Ingram (The Phantom of the Opera), Emma Pfaeffle (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) and Mandy Gonzalez (Hamilton). The event coincides with Broadway Week, the semi-annual promotion that offers two-for-one tickets to participating Broadway shows.
