Been to the public library lately? It’s not your father’s library anymore. Times have changed and so too have the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Public Libraries. Goodbye Dewey Decimal, hello digital done right, whether it is free wi-fi or helping patrons close the digital divide.

WILMINGTON - When it comes to age-friendly communities, transportation and connectivity are key. The Cape Fear Public Transportation Authority, WAVE, is starting a special service for people ages 65 and older and those with disabilities. In order to provide the kind of services people demand, WAVE wants to hear from you.

AARP members and a guest are invited to a free screening of Ghostbusters. Meet AARP staff, volunteers, and other members during the event and be sure to stop by the AARP table to learn more about what AARP is doing in your community to help everyone 50+ to live life to the fullest.

Meet Windy Ellis of Raleigh, a former state employee who put her computer skills and knowledge of networking and programming to use in a long career as a systems analyst. But when Windy retired from public service in 2014, she knew her career path was far from over. She felt the need to continue serving society and founded the charity Seniors Are Special Too.

The North Carolina General Assembly passed an Act that will make caring for loved ones across state lines easier. North Carolina was one of only a handful of states without the Uniform Adult Guardianship and Protective Proceedings and Jurisdiction Act, uniform laws that simplify the process of establishing legal guardianship when it was first established in another state. This Act will reduce the legal fees, delays in care and the red tape guardians often face when bringing their loved ones to North Carolina.
