Jack Harris remembers watching his own parents deal with aging and wanting to help other older people handle their challenges as well. Now 86, Harris has spent nearly a quarter century helping AARP as a legislative advocate, AARP Driver Safety instructor and AARP Foundation Tax-Aide volunteer. In 1999, he pressed for passage of the state’s do-not-call law.
AARP New Hampshire’s volunteer fraud fighters are trained to speak to community groups about how to outsmart scammers and prevent Medicare fraud.

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, AARP Iowa celebrates the community service of volunteer members in a short video produced following our recent 2013 annual Volunteer Recognition and Andrus Award ceremony.
Information on the Affordable Care Act (ACA) was a big draw for more than 2,000 visitors to the AARP DC booth at “La Feria de la Familia” (The Family Fair Day) held recently in Washington, DC. AARP DC was a first-time sponsor for this annual event organized by media giant Telemundo. “La Feria de La Familia,” one of the largest free events for the Latino community in the Washington, DC, Virginia and Maryland area, was an opportunity for AARP DC to engage over ten Spanish speaking volunteers and build on its outreach initiatives to the Latino community.
Washington, DC soccer fans cheered their favorite teams on Sunday, November 17 th during the Continental Soccer League Championship Tournament held at the Cardozo Education Campus athletic field. The sports event was sponsored by AARP DC and organized by Fossalex, a nonprofit organization that provides resources and support about financial security, health and wellness to Latino families in the District. Fossalex coordinates the Continental Soccer League and organizes sports events in DC to bring the Latino community together. AARP DC’s support for Fossalex and the Continental Soccer League finals was a continuation of its outreach to the DC Latino community.
