Hundreds of residents stopped by the AARP Hawaii table this weekend at the BIA Home Building & Remodeling Show at the Blaisdell Exhibition Hall. Among the most popular items is The AARP Home Fit Guide, which offers tips for making your home a safe and comfortable place for the entire family.

Each year, billions of American taxpayers’ dollars are wasted on improper payments to individuals, organizations and contractors. These are payments made in the wrong amounts, to the wrong person, or for the wrong reason. In 2009, improper payments totaled $98 billion, with $54 billion stemming from Medicare and Medicaid. AARP California volunteers and staff are visiting the Capitol once again today to share our advocacy priorities for the coming year with members of the Senate and Assembly.
Miami, Fla. – AARP Florida State Director Jeff Johnson has appointed South Florida residents Horacio Soberon-Ferrer and Kenneth Thomas, as members of the AARP Florida Executive Council, a group of top volunteer advisors leading the nation’s largest membership organization for people 50+ in the nation’s “grayest” state.
Tax season is right around the corner and many Hawaii seniors will soon be looking for filing assistance. The good news is more than 250 Tax-Aide volunteers across the state are standing by to help. Beginning February 1 through April 15, AARP-trained and IRS-certified volunteers will be available at 43 locations across the state (including 20 sites on Oahu) to help prepare federal and state tax forms.
