Pedestrian fatalities caused by automobiles are not a new problem in Hawaii, which has long held the distinction of being the most dangerous state (per capita) to be a pedestrian 65+.
With the Primary Election just a week away, AARP Hawaii is sponsoring the fourth in a series of statewide federal and state issues forums on Saturday, August 2 at the Ward Warehouse, Kakaako Room. The first part of the forum (9:30 – 10:30 a.m.) will focus on the future of Social Security, outlining challenges and possible solvency solutions. Part two (10:30 – 11:30 a.m.) will focus on state issues that are factoring into the voting decisions of Hawaii residents age 50+.

AARP Hawaii will sponsor a debate between Gov. Neil Abercrombie and state Sen. David Ige at the King Kamehameha Kona Beach Hotel on Tuesday, July 29 (9:30 – 11:30 a.m.). The Kona forum is the only remaining debate on AARP’s voter education schedule before the Primary Election on August 9.
Gov. Neil Abercrombie has withdrawn from three of four AARP-sponsored debates with Sen. David Ige, a campaign spokesperson announced late Friday citing “scheduling difficulties.” Among the canceled debates are Kahului (July 18), Hilo (July 28), and Honolulu (August 2). The spokesperson for Abercrombie said the governor will participate in the Kona debate, scheduled for Tuesday, July 29.
