As part of celebrating Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, AARP New York asked elected officials from around the state to share their stories about why they decided to run for office, why it’s important to celebrate AAPI Month, and what New Yorkers age 50-plus can do to get involved in local and state public policy. The legislators and their responses are below.

Even so, our AARP New York volunteers have continued to persevere in the face of adversity to learn how to mitigate and overcome these challenges to strengthen and serve their communities. This remarkable display of resolve and resilience exemplified by our volunteers has made AARP New York think even more deeply about its mission, strategy, and social impact.
AARP NY is proud to present a virtual program titled Guided Meditations for Increased Mental Acuity, Focus, Problem Solving, and Physical Coordination. The interactive 3-part series will be led by Ila Gupta MA., Psych.
Are you ready for some self-care? Join AARP New York and the Long Island Health Collaborative to learn more about the actions you can take now to live a healthier life. Talk with a Doc is a series of FREE virtual Zoom events held every other Wednesday at 11 a.m. throughout May, June, and July. You can participate in as many as you want. Topics include walking, diabetes, Alzheimer’s and dementia, high blood pressure, heart disease, asthma and bronchitis, arthritis, and osteoporosis. The program will culminate in August with in-person walks with doctors on Long Island. You must register to reserve your spots.
In celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage month, join AARPNY’s Executive Council Member and author of books Balikbayan: A Filipino Homecoming and Asian Americans Who Inspire Us Analiza Quiroz Wolf as she shares her journey to explore her family roots in the Philippines. She shares what inspired the journey, her experience living in her father’s childhood home for 6 months in the Philippines, and what she learned.
