At 60 years old, Clifford Boxley has been driving veterans from his hometown of Lamar, Colorado to medical appoints in Denver, as well as La Junta and Pueblo for the past seven years. That dedication has earned him the AARP 2014 Andrus Award, the highest honor a volunteer can receive from AARP.
AARP VIRGINIA STATEWIDE COMMUNITY FOOD DRIVE IS SEPTEMBER 8-15
Although the day was dreary and damp, that didn’t stop the outpouring of generosity from our community. We wanted to thank all who stopped by and donated school supplies to benefit The Banquet’s Project: S.O.S. A special thank you as well to our wonderful volunteers for serving up the best coffee in town and helping to gather the donations!

AARP Missouri selected a First Runner-up for the Andrus Award for Community Service. Elizabeth “Liz” Fenner of Lexington will receive a $500 award that will be donated to her favorite charitable organization. The 80-year old retired teacher and mother of three and grandmother of two (who will follow in her footsteps as teachers) has a long history of community involvement.
Community leader Carl T. Takamura has been appointed to AARP Hawaii’s Executive Council. Takamura brings extensive service in the educational, legislative and business arenas to the all-volunteer advisory board that shapes the 150,000-member organization’s strategic direction in Hawaii.
AARP Michigan is accepting nominations for the fourth annual Stephen J. Gools Award for Social Change.
