Connecticut has a new State Coordinator for the AARP Driver Safety Program and if you live in or around Southwestern Connecticut, you probably know him! We’re pleased to announce that Frank Pagerino of Shelton, CT has assumed the duties of State Coordinator from our friend and long-time AARP volunteer, Mary Klingler. Frank’s appointment became official on July 7.
Looking for a way to give back? AARP volunteers from the Oak Lawn area will be accepting donations to benefit Mrs. Jacky's Soldiers - a private effort to provide care packages to soldiers oversees. Since 2003, Mrs. Jacky, an Oak Lawn resident, has been sending care packages on a weekly basis to area residents stationed in Afghanistan. You can help by making a donation at our community event on September 11th!
To express heartfelt gratitude to the volunteer leaders and organizations who are working to support AARP’s vision and mission, AARP North Carolina’s staff and Executive Council held a special awards ceremony in July.
Representatives of AARP Hawaii have been invited to take part in a two-day workshop to develop a design manual to implement the City and County of Honolulu’s Complete Streets ordinance (Ordinance 12-15).

Downpours, flooding, and the constant threat of a storm wasn’t enough to keep art lovers away from this year’s Des Moines Arts Festival. I attended the fest early this year, donning my AARP shirt on Friday morning to man the booth at opening. Alongside an AARP volunteer named Jan, I helped distributed Fraud Watch information and lead a Milagros craft activity that allowed children to carve designs into colorful squares of aluminum tooling.
Do you enjoy working for a cause? Do you want to team up with other leaders to enhance the quality of life of Delawareans as they age? Then you might want to join AARP Delaware’s Executive Council.
The AARP Michigan State Office hosted 16 volunteers for Life Reimagined Guide training on June 17-18.
To meet the challenge of hunger statewide, AARP Virginia is coordinating a food drive throughout the Old Dominion Sept. 8-15. Volunteers can help at more than 150 collection sites, and donations will go to local food pantries.
